Birthday parties are my favorite thing to plan. Aside from being stressful to get everything done, they are still a blast to design. This year my oldest wanted his friend party at our house and wanted a Minecraft theme. In talking, what he came up with was a treasure hunt, with some old fashioned games, a piñata and to have something to create. He also laid out what kind of things he wanted for food as well. It was time to create!
Each kid received a Minecraft character mask and was given the task to hunt down three different materials to build a weapon. The materials were sticks, diamonds, and gold ingots. If they are able to collet these materials then they could trade them in with Steve (myself) for their weapons.
The first activity was Pin the Nose on the Pig. Yes this is the classic pin the tail on the donkey. We found this game on Amazon for $10 and it was small and simple. Here’s the link for it. https://amzn.to/4aL0K3X The kids loved it. We blindfolded them and spun them around a few times and let them have at it. We had some young ones playing and it was not hard to tell that we had some peeking happening but they still had a blast. They each got to pick their prize, whether it was a diamond, or a gold piece.
I did not have a lot of time to do any ordering of diamonds, or gold ingots so I got some pretend items that did the trick. Thanks to my son for being so forgiving for it not being perfect. The dollar store helped me out with some fun party favors. I got some gold medals and diamond rings. I’ll be honest the kids loved the rings the best.
The next activity the kiddos did were to travel to the Ender World to defeat the Ender Dragon. This activity was just another simple old school party game. Break the piñata. I made our piñata into an Ender Dragon head. It was simple and easy and the kids loved it. Not only when they broke the piñata they got candy, they also received a gold ingot or diamond piece.
The next activity that we moved on to was another old school party game called Poke-A-Present game. I put some red solo cups on an old poster board I had from a previous project. We made a 5×5 cup square and put black and purple tissue paper on it to make it look like an Enderman. Each cup contained a prize, whether it be a bouncy ball, bubbles, or candy and a stick. I just used pieces of Kabob sticks for the kids to collect.
The last activity that we did was all of the kids went into our basement to our box fort where the crafting table was stationed and I, Minecraft Steve, collected all of their ingots, diamonds and sticks and exchanged them for their weapons, the Gold Sword and Diamond Sword. We found this package deal on Amazon for the swords and mask. They were well made and the kids loved them. Link for that fun package https://amzn.to/3vtFvoo.The box fort was constructed with large cardboard shipping boxes of every size. The kids had a blast tearing them down and rebuilding and using them in their imaginative games.
The kids spent the remainder of the birthday party doing gifts, eating food, and cake and playing in the box fort that we had created. We did a Trident cupcake shaped cake. We tried to frost the cupcakes each a different shade so it looked pixelated. We order a few pizzas, had carrots sticks, clementines and Capri Suns. My son also wanted to have water and lava jello (blue raspberry and strawberry flavors) to go along with the theme. His go to treat that I was unable to get a picture of them before they were gone were the TNT cake pops. We tried rolling pop rocks into the cake batter before he put chocolate on them. They were a hit! The party favors were a compilation of all the activities they participated in. We used brown paper sacks as their “inventory” to collect the gold ingots, diamonds, candies from the piñata and other small surprises from the other activities. Their favorite favors by far were the masks, and blow up swords. The birthday party was a blast. I hope that all the kids will remember for a while!
